The Food Pantry evolved from a pilot project in 2019. The global Covid-19 pandemic put the brakes on us being able to continue the Food Pantry project but, as we finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, we are able to restart this fantastic project. The aim of the project is very different from our Food Bank or the Emergency Food Distribution projects that we have delivered in the past. We aim to reduce the food waste mountain and prevent good usable food from going to landfill. One of the added benefits of this project is that people can save money on their weekly shopping bills as well as knowing they are doing their bit to help the environment.
Another aspect that is totally different is the membership charge that users pay to be part of our service. We charge a weekly membership fee of £5 or £9 if delivery is required (Please note that we only deliver to Beaumont and Abbey wards). This is to support the costs of the project and is the only service that E2 provides where a membership fee is charged.
