Our charity is one of the delivery partners of the recently launched Moneywise Plus project. This new project is funded through Building Better Opportunities, aprogramme jointly funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund and will help people to manage their money and use the Internet safely for personal finance and job hunting. Moneywise Plus has been set up by Reaching People, a consortium of charities and not for-profit organisations.
The project will be potentially working with over 1000 people living in Leicester and Leicestershire who are not in work. The project builds on the success of Moneywise, which is familiar to local people through its shop on Granby Street in the city centre. We will be specifically leading on the digital delivery aspects of the project providing support for people using computers, smart phones, tablets and the Internet to manage money related matters including applying for benefits and searching for work.
Rakesh Modhvadiya and Jas Sahota, our two student placements from De Montfort University who are studying Information and Communication Technology BSc (Hons), are helping us to deliver the project. Rakesh and Jas spoke about the project saying: “The work we are doing in the local communities has been taken really positively and more and more people are attending every week. We are enjoying the variety of the role, helping people who live locally in the city, as well as enhancing our future career prospects. It is extremely rewarding and we are glad our work is making a difference".
